McCarthy: Geared up for pivotal clash
Wolves and the Black Cats are level on 11 points, sitting two points outside the bottom three, with both managers coming under increasing pressure after recent poor results.
Sunderland are without a win in four, with Steve Bruce facing growing supporter unrest, while Wolves slumped to a dismal 3-0 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday for a second consecutive defeat.
“I don’t think it could be any bigger,” McCarthy told the club’s website of Sunday’s game at Molineux.
“I’m not sure anybody thought we could come and win at Chelsea. It’s how we lost that is really disappointing – being 3-0 down by half-time.
“We never gave ourselves a chance of winning it. (Sunday) was always going to be huge. If this is going to make it any bigger, then so be it.”
