Kean: More frustration for Rovers boss

Rory Delap scored the opening goal at the Britannia Stadium with a glancing header from Jermaine Pennant’s free-kick before Glenn Whelan and Crouch struck home to give the Potters a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Ruben Rochina pulled a late goal back for Blackburn with a superb 20-yard strike but it was scant consolation for Rovers boss Steve Kean as his side remained firmly in the bottom three.

Crouch, who has been struggling with his fitness, was pleased to make a scoring return.

“I was pleased to get out there and declare myself fit and get the win,” Crouch told Sky Sports 2.

“We went back to basics. We’re a good side when we close teams down and we’ve got away from that in the past few games.

“Both our wingers give us so much in terms of going forward and the defence was fantastic. We need that at home and throughout the season.”

Stoke winger Matthew Etherington believes the confident performance deserved the three points.

“The last few weeks haven’t been good enough and we worked hard in training and we deserved it today,” he said.

“It was down to keeping a good shape as a team, working hard and pressing hard as a team.

“Obviously it was an opportunity to get a win and we knew that at the start of the game.

“Blackburn haven’t been on a good run but I thought we did good things today as a team and we deserved the win.”

Blackburn manager Steve Kean was left to rue a host of missed chances as his side failed to claim any points.

“I don’t think we played badly,” he said. “The balance of play in the second half was much better and we were taking the game to Stoke.

“They’re not great goals that we have given away. I felt the third goal was a very poor goal to give away but we kept at it and kept creating chances and hopefully we can tighten up at the back.

“That’s the type of team we are, we make the chances.

“Having said that, on another day I think we could have got three or four (goals).”
