Rising Arsenal starlet Emmanuel Frimpong believes the club’s youngsters are doing manager Arsene Wenger proud.
The central midfielder earned praise from both sides for his performance against Liverpool last weekend, despite seeing red in the second-half, and followed that up with an impressive 45 minutes against Udinese in Wednesday night’s Champions League qualifier.
Following the sale of Cesc Fabregas and the prolonged injury absence of Jack Wilshere, the teenager has been handed more opportunities than expected, but both he and fellow youngster Carl Jenkinson appear to be up for the challenge.
“I’m just happy that me and Carl did him proud tonight,” said Frimpong, who has been called-up into Stuart Pearce’s England U21 side.??
“Me and Carl started the game (against Udinese) and the boss stuck with us. He could have dropped us because there were more experienced players on the bench but he showed that he has faith in us.?? We are all right behind the boss and he is keeping faith in us.”
Another player who appears to have the backing of the manager, although slightly more experienced, is Czech international Tomas Rosicky.
The midfielder came off the bench to make a positive impact in Italy, and despite speculation linking the player with a move away from the club, Wenger seems more than happy with the 30-year-old.
“I felt that we lacked a little bit of creativity in the middle of the park and needed to be a little bit more creative. Tomas had a big influence in the second-half.”
Skipper Robin Van Persie added: “I believe Tomas was incredible. He came on, played incredibly well and credit to him and the team.”
